What are We?
Welcome to Grumpy Turtle Games: The brainchild of two tabletop roleplaying game enthusiasts who want to demystify and simplify the experience of finding tabletop RPG supplies and connecting with other gamers online. When shopping for supplies for our own games, we were geographically limited by the number of options available. We could drive to our closest comic book store and take a chance on what might be available. Or, we could muddle through the maze of the Internet in the hopes of finding a store that would offer us everything we needed in one place.
So we asked ourselves a question: Can we make this easier? And the answer was yes, we can!
As an online shop made by tabletop RPG players for tabletop RPG players, we are uniquely attuned to the necessary components of the game and what our friends in the community would find helpful additions to their campaign. We are looking to eliminate the hassle of clicking through hundreds of pages on Amazon and eBay looking for that one essential piece you need, or the frustration of trying to navigate the ocean of excess in other online stores that claim to “do it all”. Instead, we bring the best and most essential supplies right into your living room with a carefully selected inventory aimed at getting your game up and running sooner without having to purchase from multiple sources.
We aim to make your game easy, efficient, and enjoyable. And we plan on doing that by keeping things simple. Our products have been recommended and selected by seasoned players to bring all levels of gamers–beginner to veteran–the very best in tabletop roleplaying game supplies without having to trek through unnecessary add-ons. We’re not fancy people: We just want to play!
Who are We?
Dave is a long time gamer who has been playing tabletop role playing games and trading card games since middle school. He played Second Edition Dungeons and Dragons™ both as a player and as a DM. He also plays Magic: The Gathering™ and attends Friday Night Magic at the local gaming hall every now and then. More recently, he plays and GMs Pathfinder™ games as well as some of the White Wolf titles such as Vampire: The Masquerade™. In the mundane world, Dave is a web developer and creator as well as the webmaster of our beautiful Grumpy Turtle Games website!
Aly is a newer gamer who began playing in college. She enjoys the role play aspect of tabletop games and creating intriguing characters, but she especially enjoys the LARP and cosplay opportunities! Aly grew up writing stories containing dynamic characters and worlds, so tabletop RPGs were a natural next step! She enjoys the fantasy games as well as supernatural horror and has played in many of David’s campaigns, including his Pathfinder and Vampire: The Masquerade stories. In the real world, Aly is a full time retail buyer, so she had a lot of fun reaching out to vendors and selecting merchandise to bring to our customers!
Why a Turtle?
Because no one has ever heard of a “dungeon sprint”! Turtles are methodical and unhurried; taking their time and planning out their next move. Just as you move your miniature from one square to the next with the greatest of care, turtles focus on where they are going and are very deliberate in the actions needed to make it there. Grumpy Turtle Games was founded on the goal of providing players with the essentials to make their gaming experience easy, efficient, and enjoyable. And your game just wouldn’t be as enjoyable if you rushed through it! We appreciate the time it takes to create your character, sit down with friends, and mull over your next move with your character sheet in one hand and a craft beer in the other.
